Otrava – Poison

voice

Duration: 7 minutes
Composed: 2014

Otrava is a poem by the Soviet-Russian Futurist Aleksei Kruchyonych. The poem was published in his collection "Golodnyak" – "Famine" – in 1922, at the end of the Russian Civil War, 1917-1922. It has been suggested that close to 4.5 million people died during this time, including 3,000,000 from typhus alone, leaving Russia with an estimated 7,000,000 street children by 1922.

I performed Otrava at Fylkingen's Ljustfest, our annual seasonal celebration on the 12 December 2014.
